Rob's visit/Nagoya

Yes, I realize this is out of order. Sue me.

What did we do when Rob was here? Our big adventure was a roadtrip to Nagoya, where there was a Custom Bike show, some music, and Macky was DJing. Martin, from Austria, also came in our car, and Macky's car contained the members of Hooch. And Hiroko. And the other chick, whose name I can't remember.

At a rest stop, we found this modern technological marvel:

a coffee vending machine (of many preparation choices) that played music and had cameras installed inside! The screen on the front showed your coffee on its journey to you!

The Custom Show had, along with the obvious, the last performance of the Soap, which is sadly disbanding because one of the girls is moving somewhere with her boyfriend. It's a damn shame.

The bikes were cool, and there was a lot of ridiculously-priced merchandise and concessions for sale. M liked his Virgin cola.

The parking lot was full of attendees' fabulous hot rods, including Jeff's new-found dream car:

The night before, while I was at the show Macky was Djing with Rob and Martin and eating stupidly-hot (in Japan!) curry, Jeff had discovered a shop full of gems with the boys, including M's new bloody bear buddy and a stuffed toy from Happy Tree Friends. What a find! If you've never watched any of their adventures, be sure to follow this link.

Back in Tokyo/Yokohama, Rob & I did some of the usual stuff, like a trip to Meiji Shrine

and a walk down Cat Street, where we found The Irony Corner. It's nice to know that there is someplace you can go for a little irony. With a heart.

Rob was fascinated with this giant ad in Shibuya, for some reason. There is something that draws the eye in an unsettling way.

Martine took us to The Beat Cafe, which was a good find to replace my now-defunct favorite little punk-rock bar Garageland. We were at first wary when the sign said Metal Night, but it turned out to be a request-driven YouTube fest of 80s "metal" videos like "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "Hot For Teacher." Awesomely bad fun.

For the rest of Rob's adventures, see the previous post, if you haven't already.

Jeff's folks are arriving on Friday, for a whole new adventure. We'll be in Shimoda the following weekend, coincidentally for the Black Ship Festival, and the weekend after that (23rd) if Jeff's (not) birthday party extravaganza. If you live anywhere near us and aren't coming to the party, you suck.

Hi Sandi,

I realize I'm probably not the Robin Steeley you're looking for, but I found my name in your blog when I was doing a google search on my name, and I thought it was interesting that you grew up with someone that shared my name - small world! - I hope Japan is amazing and that you have many wonderful adventures.
